Work worries....

As time passes by, the worries in parents mind started growing, they just though all the time what will happen and what would we do if my parent just lost their job because the company went on bankruptcy. We just thought that after the first weeks in lockdown my father would be able to start working, but it wasn't so easy because the government should gave all the permissions to the enterprises and gave all the conditions, Biosecurity protocoles and Covid 19 exams.  It was just let the time pass and wait for the news of the company from my father and wait what his boss say, because we started seen that some other companies from family and friends that close and they lost their jobs.

This situations with the enterprises was not only in Colombia, but also in the all world and impacting tons of organizations worldwide and forcing them to benefit from financial state bailouts due the millionaire losses. According to figures from the American Bankruptcy Institute, the number of companies that claim to be bankrupt has increased by 26%. Some of the the most recognized companies that declared bankruptcy include Hertz , JcPenny, Cirque Du Soleil, Aldo, Aeromexico, JcCrew and more that are listed in Forbes.

Talking more into our country, the Colombian Newspaper Semana published an article that states that last October, the unemployment rates in Colombia reached levels of 20%, which monetarily means that more than 4.5 million people did not have a job up to that date due to the heavily economic crisis we live with caused mainly in that year by coronavirus.

As it has been mentioned before, this situation has led to the closure of thousands of businesses. According to the most recent data published by the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, between January and August 37.000 companies were liquidated, which represented an increase of 63% compared to October of the previous year. As we can see in the following chart, the companies that were mostly impacted by CoVid were the micro-businesses.

Other important data that was recollected form this investigation is the fact that 95% of entrepreneurs consider that the Covid-19 crises is affecting them negatively. As i have been mentioning before, this is a clear live example of what we as family have lived of the Coronavirus as we have seen how the most affected enterprises have needed to stop or shut their operations.

The twenty first century is characterized by being in constant change, this mens that for companies to survive in this ERA they have to quickly adapt and start innovating to survive in the market.

  2. This is a sad reality that has impacted the majority of Colombian households. I can say that there are very few of the lucky ones who have not been affected by the pandemic. For example, my family was affected because my mother, who is the only source of income in the house, lost her job because the business group for which she worked, could not continue to pay her fees. It is sad to see how companies see people as just one more number, they do not see that behind each worker there is a family and that this carries a great responsibility beyond paying a simple salary each month. The reflection is beyond what came later for us as a family; It is to understand that just as my mother became part of the percentage of unemployment in this country, so have millions and that not everyone has the means to continue supplying themselves and the blessings that we have in my family. It is sad to see people who have degrees, specializations, doctorates ... ask for a position for less than half of what they deserve. This pandemic has affected us all and, sadly, for companies, people are one more payroll and for the society a number more than a percentage that is growing every day. Thanks for sharing this article Santiago
